The UK Metropolitan Police has given a conclusive written warning to former Big Brother Naija housemate, Khafi Kareem for appearing on the reality show without authorization.

A judiciary hearing was lodged in the previous week after an autonomous panel discovered Khafi had executed gross misconduct by coming on the popular reality show in June 2019.

The court hearing learned how she lodged a plea for unpaid leave in June 2019 to feature on the Big Brother Naija, which was scheduled to commence just a few weeks after.

Authorization for the leave was consented, but she was instructed not to take part in the series equitable to concerns for her wellbeing and the Met’s public portrayal.

Currently, Khafi has been passed a definitive written warning.

The malfeasance panel, coming together at the Empress Building in west London, uncovered that PC Kareem had infringed the principles of competent behaviour in regard to “orders and instructions” and “discreditable conduct”.

Coming after the panel’s decision, Det Ch Supt Andy Day made an announced saying;

 “Permission was refused for PC Kareem to appear on the Nigerian version of Big Brother as it was felt it was not in the best interest for either her or the Metropolitan Police Service to take part.

“Despite this refusal, she went on the show anyway. A detailed investigation was carried out by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards which concluded PC Kareem should face gross misconduct proceedings.

“Being a police officer means you must abide by the standards of professional behaviour. PC Kareem’s behaviour clearly fell far short and she has been given a final written warning.”

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist told the hearing:

 ‘I was worried about her mental health, we have no ability to support or intervene in the Big Brother house.

‘We had no idea what security was in place around the Big Brother house and something awful could happen there or she could be targeted as a serving constable.

‘Over the years a number of people who come out of the Big Brother house are reported in the media to have suffered mental health issues. Knowing the UK version, this is something we wouldn’t want a serving officer appearing on.’

Khafi’s attorneys argued the show was an opportunity to ‘promote the Met on an international basis’,

Lawyers for the Met said.

The reality star stayed 77 days before being ousted from the BBNaija house in Lagos, Nigeria.
