Nigerian Entertainment News: “Your Papa” – Davido Responds as Music Producer, Napji Accuses Him of Unsettled Royalties
Nigerian music sensation, Davido, found himself embroiled in a dispute with music producer Napji regarding alleged overdue royalties
The conflict arose on April 23rd, 2024, when Napji took to Instagram and other platforms to allege that Davido had not fulfilled payment obligations for his contributions to the songs “Fem,” “Jowo,” and “Sunlight” featured on the 2020 album “A Better Time.”
Napji asserted that he had received only an initial payment of N500k per song, totaling N1.5 million. Despite this, he insisted on his entitlement to royalties and acknowledgment, directly addressing Davido in his social media post.
He pledged to provide further details as he pursued what he believed was rightfully owed to him in terms of compensation.
He wrote:
“I am Napji, producer behind Fem, Jowo and sunlight on @davido album (A better time). Which was released 13th November 2020.”
“I was paid an advance of 500 thousand naira for each of the songs. I will be releasing more information as I seek to collect my royalties & publishing”.
Upon seeing Napji’s public call-out, Davido swiftly responded on his verified Instagram and Twitter accounts with a curt dismissal, simply stating,
“Ur Papa.”
Reacting to Davido’s response;
