The ongoing tension between these artists has become widely recognized in the industry.
Ever since Speed Darlington was released from police custody—a situation he believes Burna Boy instigated—he has continually aimed subtle jabs at the “Odogwu” singer on social media.
It all began with a post featuring baby oil, which then inspired Speed Darlington to drop a track called “Baby Oil.” He recently performed the song at a live event, once again bringing Burna Boy into the spotlight.
Akpi, as he’s popularly known, was seen performing onstage at an undisclosed venue when he took a pause to critique Burna Boy. He remarked that someone who prides himself as the heir to Fela—the pioneer of Afrobeat—resorted to police intervention in a dispute.
He further pointed out that Fela never resorted to calling the authorities on fellow artists. The crowd couldn’t contain their laughter.
